Music fans across Australia rejoice as John Farnham, the legendary singer, is announced to be cancer-free and “doing fantastic.” The emotional update came from Farnham’s son, Robert, on Monday’s episode of Sunrise, a year after the 73-year-old underwent a 12-hour operation to remove a cancerous tumour from his mouth.
Robert fondly shared, “Just the other day, he was walking around with his cane and did a little bit of a dance, which was pretty fabulous.” Now frequently spotted taking leisurely strolls with his dog, John is apparently in great spirits and even humming tunes again. Farnham’s long battle with cancer was fought quietly, mostly in private, which makes this victory all the sweeter for his legion of loyal fans.
The good news couldn’t have arrived at a more fitting time. Australian-made documentary, “Finding the Voice,” chronicling the life and career of John Farnham, was first released in cinemas in May, but premiered on Channel 7 the same day. The feature film, which includes stars like Olivia Newton-John, Celine Dion, and Robbie Williams, promises an intimate look at the vocalist who’s touched so many hearts.
Intriguingly, John himself hasn’t yet watched the documentary. According to Robert, his father avoids self-focused publicity, “He’s not one to watch himself on TV or even read reviews – it’s just not like that. But we’ll make him watch it.”
Cancer might be a grim reality that countless people face, but John’s journey through this ordeal is a testament to resilience and optimism. As he stated last year following his diagnosis, “The one thing I know for sure is that we have the best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria, and we can all be grateful for that. I know I am.”
This jubilant news, accompanied by the sight of John “tap dancing” and singing again, has put smiles on the faces of music lovers countrywide. His triumphant return from the health battle and the release of the documentary mark a new beginning for the superstar. We eagerly anticipate the day we can listen to John Farnham’s majestic voice live once more.
