The Indonesian government introduced this tax last September with the aim of preserving the island’s natural environment, culture, and improving the quality of services and safety standards for tourists.
It feels like the tax specifically targets Australian tourists, as it’s a favourite holiday for many of us.
However, before you worry, the tax amount is just 150,000 Indonesian Rupiah, which is approximately AUD $14.40.
The fee will be effective from February 14th and can be easily paid through the LOVE BALI website or their soon-to-be-released mobile app.
Cashless payments can also be made at Denpasar International Airport or Benoa Bali Harbor if arriving by cruise.
While some travellers may be exempt from paying the tax, the government advises visitors to check their eligibility beforehand.
Those seeking exemption should apply one month before their arrival.
For the rest of us, it’s a small price to pay in the hopes of contributing to the healing of Kuta.
