Townsville Airport has announced the terminal will close from midday tomorrow, Thursday January 25, as a Tropical Low continues to track towards the city.
It’s expected to form into a Tropical Cyclone early on Thursday morning, with a warning zone in place from Lucinda to Sarina, including Townsville, Mackay, Bowen and the Whitsunday Islands.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns Tropical cyclone impacts are likely to begin for coastal and island communities tonight and Thursday morning.
“Airlines are cancelling and rescheduling services as necessary. If you are booked on flights tomorrow or Friday please contact your airline directly for further advice,” a post on Townsville Airport’s Facebook page reads.
“We will continue to share updates here and on our website if circumstances change.”
“If your vehicle is parked at Townsville Airport and you need to contact our team please direct all enquiries to tsvcarpark@tsvairport.com.au.”
“The next update will be issued at approximately 4pm this afternoon.”
The Cyclone is currently expected to make landfall just south of Townsville sometime on Thursday night, as a Category 2 system.
