Police have been cracking down on traffic offences in the Townsville district to reduce road trauma.
Over the past week and the Easter long weekend officers conducted more than 2,300 random breath tests, as apart of Operation Whiskey Easter.
As a result they have caught 23 drink drivers and 28 drug drivers in the Townsville district.
Townsville Highway Patrol Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan Ivey says while all readings above the legal limit are concerning during this operation a female driver was detected with a roadside reading of 0.29%.
“This reading is almost 6 times over the legal limit and shows a total disregard for the road rules or the safety of other road users.
“Her actions could have very easily led to a serious traffic crash, if not a death on our roads and are totally unacceptable.”
Police also issued 249 traffic infringement notices to drivers including 72 of those for speeding.
Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan Ivey warns that police will continue to patrol and enforce the road rules for the safety of the community.
“What can seem like an innocent decision at the time, has the potential to be life changing for yourself, your loved ones, and other road users.
“For the sake of everyone using our roads, let’s follow the road rules and drive to the conditions.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and we want each and every person get home safely to their families every day,” Acting Senior Sergeant Ivey says.
