A 46-year-old man has been shot by police after allegedly entering Kirwan Police Station armed with a knife.
Officers say at around 10.00pm on Saturday, the Cranbrook man threatened officers at the station.
Police shot the man and immediately rendered first aid, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigations are continuing which include the review of body worn vision and CCTV from the station.
A crime scene was declared and the Kirwan Police Station remained closed yesterday.
The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident on behalf of the State Coroner, with the investigation subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
