Motorists are being reminded to be extra careful on the roads these Easter School Holidays, as at least fifty-seven people have died on Queensland roads in 2025.
Queensland police say at least 30 drivers and 11 motorcycle riders have been killed on our roads, including a 27-year-old driver who died in a crash at Alligator Creek on Friday.
The Bruce Highway was shut in both directions on Friday morning as multiple emergency services rushed to the fatal crash in Nome, where a truck and vehicle collided just after 6 am. The 27-year-old driver was trapped inside his vehicle, before he died at the scene.
These holidays, Far North police say they’ll be targeting dangerous drivers as more people hop in the car and hit the road around Easter. In addition to high-visibility patrols, police are set to ramp up drug testing.
So far this year, Queensland Police Service has conducted more than 488,000 random breath tests and more than 185,000 roadside drug tests across Queensland, detecting more than 9,200 motorists over the legal alcohol limit and more than 37,600 positive indications that motorist have driven under the influence of illicit drugs.
