The Brisbane Broncos claimed the first XXXX derby for the year – winning 26-16 at Suncorp Stadium.
The Cowboys third consecutive loss took a turn for the worst for Tongan center Viliami Vailea, after his eye was scratched in the first half.
Cowboys Coach Todd Payten says Vailea was taken to hospital for treatment, after recurring blurry vision.
“Not good. He’s gone to hospital. Copped a scratch, had blurred vision, it sort of came good and he went back out there, it went blurry again and it’s not good,” Payten said immediately after the game.
The club has high hopes he will be ready for the clash with the Canberra Raiders this Saturday. Zac Laybutt will be next in line to fill the center spot if needed.
Todd Payten has also shut down rumors about his job being on the firing line, saying his more concerned about his sanity, with the team under pressure. However, he claims they will get on with the job in the hopes the team can turn things around.
