The temporary bridge over Ollera Creek, in Mutarnee, is set to open to general traffic this afternoon, reconnecting Cairns, Townsville and flood affected Ingham residents.
Rising flood waters caused the bridge to collapse more than a week ago cutting off access and blocking emergency supplies to North Queenslanders who need it most.
An emergency bridge was built for essential services and supplies with stage two of the rebuild beginning over the weekend to build a temporary bridge for the general public.
It comes after Premier David Crisafulli and the Prime Minister visited the site, the Premier pushing for a longer, higher bridge to be built on the Bruce Highway.
Mr Crisafulli says the bridge is a temporary solution before long term improvements to the Bruce can be made as residents shouldn’t have to be at the mercy of a flimsy bridge in weather events.
