This season marks a new era for the show, as Henry Cavill steps away after three successful seasons to explore other projects.
Enter Liam Hemsworth, who steps into replace Cavil and carry on the legacy of Geralt.
Originally planned for seven seasons, Netflix has confirmed that the journey will conclude with season five.
Premiering in 2019, The Witcher quickly became a standout hit for Netflix. While the first season captivated audiences with its faithful adaptation of the beloved books and games, interest waned slightly with the second and third seasons.
The trailer kicks off with a familiar vibe, almost making it feel like Henry Cavill might still be around.
Geralt, alongside his trusty horse Roach, navigates a creepy bog. But when Hemsworth turns around, he undeniably embodies the iconic white-haired monster hunter.
Despite the striking visuals, fans are skeptical. One fan on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “Listen, he’s fine…but you can’t take Henry from us and give us Liam. You can’t follow up a Bentley with a Jeep.”
Another commented, “We didn’t want a different Geralt guys we wanted different writers.”
Henry Cavill has never officially disclosed why he left the show, but rumors suggest creative differences.
In a 2021 interview with Philippine Star, Cavill mentioned his struggle to balance the vision of the showrunners with his passion for the original books.
He aimed to bring a more book-accurate Geralt to the screen, a goal that sometimes clashed with the creative direction of the show.
Showrunner Lauren Hissrich shared insights on Cavill’s persistence in landing the role when he first heard about the project. While it’s unclear if any tensions linger between Cavill and the writers, he has publicly supported Hemsworth’s take on Geralt.
Season 4 promises to be a thrilling ride as the torch is passed to a new Geralt. Will Hemsworth win over the hearts of The Witcher fans? Only time will tell.
