An attempted carjacking at Aitkenvale has left a man in hospital.
Around 11.40pm Thursday, a 26-year-old man was sitting in his parked car at Stocklands Shopping Centre.
It’s alleged a 19-year-old man has opened the door and threatened the man with a knife demanding the car.
The 26-year-old man got out of the car, but a struggle ensued resulting in the victim receiving wounds to his right hand.
A witness, whilst recording the incident on his phone, has approached the 19-year-old who then fled the scene.
Police located him in Elizabeth Street a short time later and arrested him.
The 19-year-old Vincent man has been charged with one count each of wounding, attempted robbery whilst armed, unlawful entry of a vehicle for committing indicatable offence at night whilst armed and common assault.
He will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today.
The 26-year-old victim remains at the Townsville University Hospital with serious injuries to his right hand.
