Townsville kerbside collection made easier than ever

Residents are encouraged to make the most of Townsville City Council’s free kerbside collection service by signing up online now.

The convenient to-your-door collection service is designed to save people a trip to the tip and improve the city’s street appeal by ensuring people can book a specific date to put their large unwanted items out for collection.

Each residential property in Townsville can claim one kerbside collection of up to two cubic metres of hard waste per financial year.

Councillor Russ Cook says booking was essential for Council to know when and where to collect a household’s waste.

“Without bookings it’s hard to tell kerbside collection from illegal dumping. That’s why we encourage locals to jump onto Council’s website to book their kerbside collection, and to place their waste out by 6am on their collection day, but no more than two days prior,” Cr Cook says.

“By sticking to bookings we’re able to make sure kerbside waste is collected efficiently in order to maintain our city’s amenity.”

Locals are being reminded that kerbside collection is for items like white goods, hot water systems, mattresses, furniture, electronic waste, bicycles, sinks, scrap iron and wood products.

“We can’t collect green waste, bricks, concrete, commercial waste, car parts, liquids, hazardous waste, gas bottles, glass and mirrors, household waste that normally goes in your residential bin or any items that may be dangerous for our truck drivers’ safety,” Cr Cook says.
